Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides)
A hardy shrub that grows on marginal soils and tolerates salinity in the soil and in the air, sea buckthorn produces berries that are rich in beta carotene and vitamin e. It is a handsome plant with greyish leaves and when it is in fruit, the bright orange berries cover it's thorny interior. Sea buckthorn is nitrogen fixating so that it improves soil quality while reducing erosion. It is also extremely cold hardy.
